Your Library card is going to be one of the most powerful tools in your summer of FUN tool box! Did you know you can enter into almost every Florida State Park this summer using your public library card?

Sanibel Public Library is circulating two Real Florida Reader State Park Passes. Patrons can place a hold or check out a pass on a first-come, first-served basis. One pass per household, loaned for one week. Each pass is good for one vehicle with up to eight passengers. The Real Florida Reader State Park Pass is for day-use entry and is valid only at Florida state parks, excluding Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife, Skyway Pier, and Weeki Wachee Springs state parks.

“Florida has a rich cultural and historical heritage with more than 175 state parks. Patrons can use the Passes to explore nearby places like Koreshan State Park or Mound Key Archaeological State Park. The Real Florida passes provide the perfect opportunity to experience our state’s diverse natural and cultural treasures,” said Library Executive Director Margaret Mohundro.

For more detailed information about the passes, and a list of state parks, go to: https://www.floridastateparks.org/RealFloridaReader

State Park passes are available at East Service Desk (upstairs from the Main Entrance). If you borrow a pass, please return it to the service desk, do not return to Book Drops. Overdue fee applies. Borrow a birdwatching kit from the Sanibel Public Library (choose the kit for adults or children) to bring to your state park visit! For an extra challenge, check out a book about Florida’s wildlife and see if you can identify any of the flora, fauna, or habitats seen at the park. The Real Florida Reader Park Pass program runs through September 12, 2022.

The Library also offers passes to four of the area’s popular attractions—The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (C’mon), and CROW’s Visitor Education Center. Passes may be checked out for one week using a current Sanibel Public Library card. Call the Library for more information or to place a hold for a pass, or go to: hold pass

Sanibel Public Library cards are available to all residents of Sanibel and Lee County, Florida, at no charge. You must present your valid driver’s license (or similar government ID) to staff, showing your current Lee County address. Visitor cards are available for a $10 fee and are good for one year.
