NewsBank—a service where patrons have online access to 1000s of new sources
Sanibel Public Library offers the NewsBank service to all cardholders. With NewsBank you can search a single newspaper, a select group of sources, or the entire collection. Online access to local and world news is available 24/7 in the Library as well as remotely. “This comprehensive resource offers hundreds of millions of current and archived full-text articles from thousands of news sources, including Naples Daily News, Miami Herald, and Tampa Tribune,” says Candace Heise, Reference Librarian. It includes the electronic editions of more than 2,700 verified U.S. news sources. It also contains the electronic editions of record for local, regional, and national U.S. newspapers—all in one easy-to-search database. Patrons can search under Current Events for Special Reports and Hot Topics, which gives a concise overview from all sources. To find the service, look for “Newsbank – Access World News” link on the Resources page at sanlib.org.
NewsBank provides patrons with authoritative coverage of local and national topics, along with obituaries, statistics, videos, quotations, facts, analysis and much more. With unlimited access to NewsBank from library computers—and remote access 24/7 for most sources—patrons can freely search, browse, print, save, email and share full-text articles. All you need is your Sanibel Public Library card. Patrons can search articles by headline, name, topic, date, author and section, with the option to view results by date or relevance ranking. If you need help using NewsBank, call the Library at (239) 472-2483 to set up an appointment with staff.
Print editions of many newspapers are available to read while in the Library, including the Fort Myers News-Press, The New York Times and Washington Post.
The “Your Library Reimagined” project is underway at Sanibel Public Library. During the project, a portion of the building will be closed to the public while the infrastructure is updated. The Library will provide service through most of the renovation period, but will occasionally have to close for a day or two when there is utility or plumbing work.
Sanibel Public Library cards are available to all residents of Sanibel and Lee County, Florida, at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee. For more information about the Sanibel Public Library, call (239) 472-2483 or visit online at www.sanlib.org.
